Island Teriyaki Sauce Recipe

We gave this teriyaki sauce a bit of a health makeover. It’s so easy to make and so much better than store-bought. Seriously, you will wonder why you were buying bottled.

Teriyaki sauce is typically higher in sugar. Our health makeover uses coconut sugar to improve blood sugar response while also adding some flavorful and nutrient-dense ingredients.

WHAT THE DIETITIANS LOVE ABOUT THIS RECIPE:

Coconut Sugar: a great sweetener that does not spike blood sugar.

Sesame Seeds: a source of healthy fats and helps to control blood sugar.

Garlic: amazing for its anti-inflammatory properties!

Ginger: a great spice that influences genes to reduce oxidation and inflammation in the body.

 

Ingredients:

1/2 C soy sauce

2 Tbsp rice vinegar

2 Tbsp pineapple juice

1 Tbsp sesame oil

1/4 C coconut sugar

3/4 tsp ground ginger

1 tsp sesame seeds

1 tsp dried minced oil

1 Tbsp minced garlic

2 tsp cornstarch mixed with tsp pineapple juice

Directions:

  • In a small saucepan, mix together soy sauce, through minced garlic.
  • In a small bowl, mix together 2 tsp cornstarch with 2 tsp pineapple juice and mix well. After mixing well, add to the soy sauce mixture.
  • Heat the mixture on medium heat, stirring well. Heat until sauce starts to thicken.
  • Enjoy with your favorite protein source and vegetable. Add noodles or rice if desired.
