Nutrigenomics is the interaction of diet and genes as it pertains to improving health outcomes. Bioactive foods are those that have specific compounds that regulate gene expression and "turn on or off" certain genes responsible for many different outcomes related to health and performance in the body.

Think fruits and vegetables as the easy, go-to bioactive foods. However, there are many herbs and spices that are proving to have great bioactive abilities that will favorably interact with the body also. Enjoy this bioactive recipe to feed your genes!

Ingredients:

  • 1 Beet, chopped

  • 2 Cucumbers, peeled and chopped 

  • 3 carrots, peeled and chopped

  • 2 celery stalks, chopped

  • 1/2 C rice vinegar

  • 1 Tbsp dill weed

  • black pepper to taste

Preparation:

  1. Combine all ingredients in a medium bowl and toss until well combined

  2. Enjoy.
